Smokefree Class Competition Network Meeting in Hamburg (Germany)

8th and 9th June 2009

In June, twelve SFC-Network partners met in Hamburg for exchanging experiences, discussing features and future of SFC and SFC-Network. For most of the participating partners, SFC is widely established in schools, teachers and students expect it and participation rates are on a quite stable high level.

But also "newer" partners participated and reported on their experiences with planning or expanding SFC in their countries. As most important strengths of SFC easy implementation, attractiveness for teachers and students, fostering creative activities, use of networks for dissemination and European dimension were outlined.

Prominent problems and hurdles like relying on trust and self-control, motivation of teachers and dealing with smokers were denominated and ideas for solution were collected. Another topic was evaluation of SFC: results of recent studies on process and outcome evaluation as well as possible side effects were reported (see also Recent Studies).

For future, continued cooperation and exchange on concrete components of SFC (like creative activities, lessons on health promotion, involvement of parents) was suggested.
